The industrial gas industry uses a group of gases that are specifically manufactured for use in the a wide range of industries. Each industry requires products and parts for their machinery including gauging drills, and plug orifices, gauging kits and burner tips. A few of these include: oil and gas, petrochemicals and steelmaking. The term “industrial gasses” is occasionally defined as simply the major gases sold. These gases include; nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, argon, hydrogen, acetylene and helium. Industrial gasses have many applications across a number of industrial fields including: chemical industry; cryogenics; cutting and welding; environmental protection; food processing, metrology and measurement; laboratory and instrumentation; gases for breathing, gases for safety and inerting;  glass, ceramics and other minerals; medical gases; metallurgy; rubber; plastics, paint; semiconductor industry; water treatment; welding and underwater diving.

The oil and gas industry includes the global processes of exploration, extraction, refining and transportation of petroleum products. Petroleum oil is used as the raw material for a number of chemical products such as solvents, fertilizers and pesticides. Petroleum is vital to a large number of industries and is of critical concern for many nations. Petroleum oil is one of the worlds largest basis for consumption of energy.

Petrochemicals are chemicals that are derived from petroleum. The two most common petrochemical classes are olefins and aromatics. Olefins and aromatics are the building blocks for a large number of commonly used products including solvents, detergents, and adhesives. Olefins are necessary to produce plastics, resins, fibers, elastomers, lubricants and gels. Petrochemicals are made on a very large scale such are commodity chemicals. However, petrochemical manufacturing units and commodity chemical plants differ because they produce a number of related products as opposed to just one type of chemical.
